Our Classes

Collage Workshop on Wednesday, December 4 & 11 at River House

“Collage has been one of the most relevant forms of art making. It’s resonant because it is made of the stuff that we see every day. It’s familiar. It reflects our reality.” -Elliott Hundley.

In this class we will learn about the history of collage along with a variety of mixed-media techniques.

Supply List:

  • Mark making tools that you find around the house
  • Paint brushes
  • Scissors - if desired, but tearing is great too!
  • Mod Podge or gel medium
  • A brayer, an old spatula, credit card or hotel key for smoothing glued collage pieces
  • Paper plates or other paint palette
  • Plastic Cup for water
  • Paper to be used as a substrate such as watercolor paper or card stock or cardboard…and/or Art Wood Panels (if you would like to use a lot of items/texture)
  • Various types of paper/fabric that can be used as collage
  • Paints (watercolor, ink, high-flow acrylic or gouache)
  • A pencil and eraser

Class sessions will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 11 from 11:30 to 1:30 at the River House (179 Marine Street, St. Augustine 32084)

No class sessions on Dec. 18, 25

Classes are for ages 18 and up.

Beginner or Easy Tai Chi - COA Center at UF Health Nocatee

Instructor Dennis Shiels will guide you through a series of gentle physical exercises and stretches. Sometimes described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity and connects the mind and body.  This 1 hour class is for people who are beginners or need a refresher in Tai Chi.  Open to all adults 18+ for 3 Wednesdays in December at 12:30.

Advanced Tai Chi - COA Center at UF Health Nocatee

Flexibility and Mobility on Thursdays in November / December at River House

This Stretching and Mobility class will help you improve your flexibility and increase your range of motion (mobility) which affects your posture, health, and daily functions. You will experience both static and dynamic stretching and learn how to perform stretches correctly. A relaxation meditation will conclude each class. Please bring a yoga mat and either a small towel or stretch strap.

She is a master trainer and on the pro development team for Schwinn Cycling, Silver and Fit, Savvier Fitness, and Bosu. She has authored numerous articles and stars in 1000’s of educational and consumer fitness videos.

Sea Shell Art Class (Christmas themed) on Tuesday, December 10 at River House

Come join us for fun and creativity. Use your skill and imagination to turn Sea Shells into shell "Things". Make a Bird, a Giraffe, a cute Dog, or a Man Fishing.

Choose from twenty pre-made kits and customize the kits with your own inspiration.

Jim learned to make things out of Sea Shells, being inspired by his wife, Gayle, who is an Artist and who is now making jewelry.

Class session is on Tuesday, December 10 from 11:15 to 12:15 at River House (179 Marine Street)

Lynn Ringhaver RN., BSN., L.Ac. was an Intensive care nurse for 15 years before moving into Integrative Medicine. She was in private practice for over 20 years including: Shiatsu, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition. Certified in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn. Certified in Qi Gong with Master Robert Peng. Emotional Freedom Technique training with Dawson Church PhD.

Class session is on Tuesday, December 10 from 1:15 to 2:15 at River House (179 Marine St.)

Looking for something different to bring to the holiday cookie swap this year? Aromatic herbs such as rosemary, thyme and chamomile are not only therapeutic herbs, but they also bring wonderful flavor to desserts. In this class, you will watch a cooking demonstration, and learn easy holiday cookie recipes incorporating culinary and therapeutic herbs. At the end of class participants will have the opportunity to sample the cookies prepared and go home with new holiday cookie recipes to try!

James is a Professor of Biological Sciences, Master Herbalist, Natural Wellness Practitioner and Personal Chef with over 20 years of professional and clinical experience.

This one session class meets on Thursday, December 12 from 2:30 to 4 at River House (179 Marine Street, St. Augustine 32084)

Classes are for ages 18 and up.
