The Great American Songbook: The 1940s on Thursdays in February at River House
with Thomas Hischak
This class looks at popular music during the Forties. And what a decade it was for American songs! Most of our outstanding composers and lyricists were active in the 1940s and writing unforgettable songs for Broadway, Hollywood, and Tin Pan Alley. We will also explore the best vocalists of the decade from Bing Crosby to Billie Holiday. The class is part-lecture, part-listening to classic recordings of outstanding songs.
Thomas Hischak is a retired Professor of Performing Arts from the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is the author of over thirty books on theatre, film, and popular music.
Class sessions will be on Thursdays, February 5, 12, 19, 26 from 10 to 11:15 at River House (179 Marine St. in St. Augustine)
For ages 18 and up.
