It was a turbulent decade filled with contrasts and the Broadway musical was no exception. The 1960s saw such diverse shows as Hello, Dolly! and Hair, Bye Bye Birdie and Fiddler on the Roof, and Mame and Man of La Mancha. We will be looking at such hits as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, 1776, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Funny Girl, and Camelot, as well as several lesser known works. The class is part lecture, part watching scenes from these musicals and listening to some of the most memorable songs that came from them.

Thomas Hischak is a retired Professor of Performing Arts from the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is the author of over thirty books on theatre, film, and popular music.
