Rodgers and Hammerstein Musicals: The Familiar and the Forgotten on Mondays in September at River House
with Thomas Hischak
Everyone knows The Sound of Music, The King and I, Oklahoma! and other successful Broadway musicals by the celebrated team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. But what about the lesser-known works such as Allegro and Me and Juliet? We’ll cover them all in this class that is part lecture, part watching scenes from these musicals, all of which have some memorable songs regardless of whether they were hits or not.
This is not a music theory class but more a music appreciation one.
Thomas Hischak is a retired Professor of Performing Arts from the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is the author of over thirty books on theatre, film, and popular music.
Class sessions will be on Mondays, September 14, 21, and 28 from 9:30 to 11 at River House (179 Marine St. in St. Augustine)
