Chair Yoga on Thursdays in October at River House

Discover a yoga practice that has therapeutic benefits for seniors who may not be able to stand for long periods of time or may be uncomfortable seated on the floor.
Class sessions will be held on Thursdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 from 9:00 - 10:00 at River House (179 Marine Street, St. Augustine 32084)

Tai Chi and Qigong on Thursdays in October at River House
with Sharon Infante
If you have tried other Tai Chi forms and found them difficult to maintain, consider giving this class a try. The forms taught here are carefully selected and can be easily adapted for all levels, including individuals experiencing chronic pain or other physical conditions. We use the Tai Chi Easy Method, Fall Prevention practices, and Parkinson’s protocols to support safe, accessible participation and learning. Classes include breathwork, meditation, self-massage, and gentle movement. Forms covered: Review of Tai Chi Easy, followed by Tai Chi for Health, and progressing to Tai Chi for Energy.
Please dress comfortably, wear sneakers or rubber-soled shoes, and bring a water bottle.
Sharon Infante is Medical Qigong Practitioner (MQP), an IIQTC and UHT certified in Tai Chi, Qigong, Daoyin Yoga, meditation and Sound Frequency. She has been teaching for more than 20 years. She enjoys bringing Tai Chi Gong and Sound Healing Meditation to communities, hospitals, schools, health festivals so that they may benefit from the combined benefits of the body, mind, spirit connection.
Class sessions will be held on Thursdays, October 1, 15, 22, 29 from 10:30 to 11:30 at River House (179 Marine Street, St. Augustine). No class session on Thursday, Octobeer 8.

Intro to the Fundamentals of Golf on Thursdays in October at River House
with Joe Monaco
Coach Joe Monaco will instruct a beginner golf program that will enable participants to learn the fundamentals of golf and begin to play.
Students will be using a putter, pitching wedge, 7 iron and Driver. Balls will be provided. You can bring your own clubs, or they will be provided during the sessions.
Joe Monaco is a retired teacher (middle and high school) who has extensive experience in coaching a variety of sports including football, wrestling, track, and golf at high school and junior college levels. He also has experience in running recreation programs and a variety of volunteer programs.
Joe has been playing golf for decades and looks forward to teaching the game.

Tap Dancing Level 1 & 2 on Thursdays in October at River House

This class will accommodate the new beginner while honing the skills of the more experienced beginner. Class will focus on tap basic fundamental single and double sound steps. Short combinations will introduce/review such composite steps as the shim sham, front and back essence, waltz clog, and simple rhythm time steps.
Tap shoes are recommended for this class.

Mat Pilates for Active Aging on Mondays in October at River House

You are never too old to begin your Pilates practice. If you are 60+ years and active, you are ready to start! Unlike Pilates reformer or mixed equipment classes, Mat classes use the human body against gravity to achieve fitness results. Mat work is essentioal to using Pilates equipment efficiently. This class incorporates foundational excercises throughout all beginner-intermediate Mat work.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring a thick mat.
Cynthia Domino is not only a certified classically trained Pilates instructor, but she also brings more than 33 years of experience as an Artistic Director and arts educator. She considers it a privelege to teach Pilates to continue the work in which she has dedicated her life while also contributing to our community.

Gentle Yoga on Mondays in October at River House
with Scott Farber
This dynamic yet gentle class is for all ages, accommodating beginners as well as those who want to deepen their practice. Using teaching demonstrations and detailed guidance, each class proceeds in a safe and slow way to instruct the basics of (Kripalu) yoga postures, breathwork and meditation. Plenty of modifications and variations will be given for different body types.
Classes are 90 minutes and include an opening centering, gentle warmups, postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama), and a long closing relaxation (yoga nidra).
Please bring your own yoga mat, water bottle, and blanket or cushion to sit on.
Scott Farber, Ph.D., E-RYT 500/YACEP. Scott has been practicing yoga, meditation, and t'ai chi since the 1970s. A former college professor, with a doctorate in philosophy of education, he has traveled and taught all over the world. He now serves as a lead trainer in the Discovery Yoga School, offering a variety of yoga classes, workshops and teacher trainings.

Tai Chi / Qigong on Mondays in October at River House

Qigong is the art of cultivating our vital energy or life force using gentle movements coordinated with breathing. It promotes health and vitality. Tai Chi is the epitome of qigong. It is a healing art, a moving meditation, and a slow graceful dance. It relaxes the body and focuses the mind. It improves balance and posture. We'll learn a variety of standing qigong methods as well as the famous Cheng Man-Ching (Yang style) Tai Chi form. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and, if possible, flat-bottomed shoes.
Scott Farber, Ph.D., has been practicing and teaching Tai Chi & Qigong for over forty years. He has studied the form, push hands and sword. As an apprentice in the international School of Tai Chi Chuan, he completed fifteen years of intensive teacher training. A former college professor, he now serves as a health and wellness consultant, teaching yoga, tai chi and meditation.
